Free Web Traffic

Traffic that arrives at a Website for free is obviously preferable to the paid alternative and as a result contrived solutions such as Web rings and traffic exchanges have sprung up all over the Web. The effectiveness of such solutions, however, is not always what it is cracked up to be and experts agree that more productive time and effort could be spent on developing a site to attract natural traffic.

This so called natural or organic traffic comes as a result of a search for a particular subject or a link from another Website and consequently is usually made up of targeted visitors. Targeted traffic as we know is the most valuable of all, so it is little wonder that there is so much debate on the various techniques of search engine optimisation.

Traffic Exchange Systems
Traffic exchanges usually work on a membership credit system, whereby each time you visit one of the other member's Websites you gain a 'credit' that is exchanged for one or more visits to your own site.

There are many supporters of traffic exchange systems in Internet Marketing forums and it appears that the system works very well for some. However, this success seems to be limited to list building or so called “flycatcher” pages and the traffic exchange system seems to have little to offer for more traditional or mainstream Websites.

Critics of the system point out that the time spent surfing for traffic credits could be better used building credibility and gaining more targeted visitors elsewhere.
